I have not accomplished much on the hobby front in the last few weeks, but this weekend has been very productive. For four years I've been planning the game table I wanted to build in the basement. Something has always come up that stopped me from working on it.

The table, nearly complete. |
I finally decided it was time to get this done. I told SWMBO that the only thing I wanted for Father's Day was the materials to build the table. Costs have gone up in the last four years, and she couldn't find MDF to save her life, but all the rest arrived early Saturday morning.

The fish tank crate. |
I had a crate for a saltwater fish tank that the Traveller had given me. I took one side off and cut it in half to be shelves. The crate serves as one end of the table and now I have shelves to hold some of my terrain.

The table with foam tiles in place. |
The rest of the table is a 2x4 framework. 1/2 inch plywood lays on top of that. The table is six feet across and eight feet long. The pink foam tiles will need to be trimmed to fit, but I can do that with my hot foam cutter. I have 24 2" deep tiles, which is enough to cover the table, build some tiles with built in hills and still have a bunch left over to switch them out.

I'm missing one 2x4 piece of plywood. |
Rhys helped me with the sawing, holding the cut off ends so they wouldn't bind. The Traveller showed up in the afternoon to help me with assembly. The foam cutting was the most tedious part. I went through nine razor blades cutting this.
I've been dreaming of the terrain tiles I can make with this setup for a long time. I'm really happy to finally have it done. Now, to get some tiles made.
I am very envious! Looking forward to more updates.
ReplyDeleteI aim to please. It's been a long time coming so now I need to keep up the momentum.
DeleteOh my! Can I come over and play?
ReplyDeleteWe can play our next game of HC on it.
DeleteThank you Andrew. Now for the hard part.
ReplyDeleteYou lucky man. Look forward to seeing the progress on this.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Pat.
Pat I am very lucky. I'll be visiting your site quite a bit for inspiration as I work on this project.
DeleteThanks Nathan. It will be a work in progress for quite awhile, but the basics are done and it can be played on now, that's what matters. I'm quite lucky to have the space to do this. SWMBO doesn't really like the basement.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! And it'll greatly increase the odds that you'll be hosting for any mashup in the future!
ReplyDeleteThanks Monty. I'm very excited about it. It does make me hope to host a big game some weekend soon.
