Painted Romans - January goal

January is over and I managed to meet my goal of painting twenty figures.  Will miracles never cease?

Veteran Command

As readers will be aware, I recently had surgery on my right shoulder.  I'm right handed so this has slowed my painting.  Last week I also got the left shoulder done.  Despite this, I was able to wrap these lads up over the course of the last ten days.  Cue images of clutching models between my toes while painting with a brush in my mouth.  It wasn't quite that bad but close.

These are some salty old dogs.
These are Warlord Games EIR Veterans.  They come twenty to a box.  The sculpts are great, lots of battle damage and character.  They are also sporting extra armor on the right arms, optional greaves and reinforced helmets.

Bandages all around.
There are also several legionaries with bandages.  The variety in heads and arms alone is nice.  The one bad thing about this set is that the decals were crap.  I hate decals anyway, but these did not stick at all.  I ended up using super glue to stick them down.  It's the closest I've been to rage in a long, long time.

All twenty veterans, ready to dust it up.
These twenty give me sixty painted legionaries total.  Since I run them in units of sixteen that's enough for four units.  I just bought some auxiliary cavalry and archers, as well as some more command models.  Currently on the work bench is a regiment of 24 Auxiliary infantry, followed by Praetorians.  This army is starting to take shape nicely.  I can't wait to play again.

  1. The greaves I believe are from the Dacian Wars to combat the dreaded falx weapon. Nice work.

    1. Fran, these definitely look like Dacian veterans to me. Everything fits with what we think we know about the changes made for that fight.

    1. Jonathan, our games have been driving me to get these done. I hate having unpainted models on the table and I'm looking forward to another go around. On a side note, my travel in February got canceled so I might be able to get a game in before March.

    1. Thanks Ray. Super gluing decals is not for the faint of heart, for sure. It worked but I don't know if it was the super glue or the blue streak I was swearing up as all of the decals peeled off.
