Bloggers for Charity 1

Several months ago I signed up as a painter for the Bloggers for Charity game.  Loki assigned me some Rangers and they arrived in the mail a couple of weeks ago.  These miniatures were donated by the manufacturer, AW Miniatures.  (Phew!  That's a lot of links in a little bit of space).

The eight models I've been assigned for painting.

I had never heard of AW Miniatures before I signed up for this project.  The pictures looked good but I didn't know what to expect with the models in hand.  It turns out they are really, very nice.  There was not much flash and what there was cleaned up easily.  The metal is softer than some of what I'm used but not in a bad way.  The only annoying/odd bit was the chunks of metal on the barrels of the rifles.  It was difficult to decide what to cut/file off and what to leave.

The two kneeling poses.
There are four basic poses, and two variants of each.  The poses are kneeling and firing, standing and firing, standing at the ready and advancing.

From the rear.  There are subtle differences between the two.
The details on these are very crisp and clean.  The faces have a lot of character, those several of these lads bear a very strong family resemblance to each other.

Standing at the ready.
There is plenty of detail to sink your brush into.  These should be fun to paint.

Just look at that face.  Brilliant work.
Standing and firing.  You can see the wonky muskets in this shot.
Advancing.
I really like these models.  I've not really been interested in the French and Indian War but I may have to find a reason to buy some of these, and to check out more of AW's line.  If the period is at all your thing then I would suggest these fantastic models as a great starting point.

  1. I had not heard of AW miniatures, either. You are right on; very nice models. The style reminds me a little of Black Hat.

    1. It's a privilege James. I hope I can do them, and the entire effort, justice.
