Hail Caesar - Roman skirmishers

The painting challenge is already working it's magic.  I need to clear the work bench so I can queue up the models for the challenge.  This week I got eight slingers done.  They've been sitting on the workbench for months.

Eight slingers.  I have high hopes for these chaps.

I've wanted slingers for my EIR army for quite awhile.  Jonathan has some and they have always been a pain in my back side.  Anything that adds to the tactical conundrum of my opponent is a good thing.  These models are From Warlord and are very nice.  Lots of character and nice sculpts.  I missed a few mold lines, which I only discovered after I started painting them.  Cleverly, I took the pictures so you can't see them.

The gray haired fellow will act as the unit leader if such is necessary.
I have to varnish these, but other than that they are ready to go.  I know they are a bit uniform, but it's my army and that's how I wanted them.  These four are a good start for now, and I have four more from my Dux Brit Romano-Brit army that I could sub in as well.  As auxiliaries they will work just fine.

The whole unit of eight; or two units of four, as is more likely.
Next on the work bench are eight more eastern auxiliary archers.  They will be followed by the eight Rangers for the charity and some Roman command models, including the three large command bases.  After that will be more frantic assembly to get models ready for the challenge.

  1. Nice looking slingers. While I haven't played Hail Caesar, we found out this weekend that slingers can be effective in Impetvs as well.

    1. Thank you Jonathan. I've been surprised at how effective they are. They do just enough to be annoying and make you want to deal with them.

    1. Thanks James. That's the plan. If I can pull that off then there's a chance I can make my par.

  3. These are jolly nice, it is amazing what the challenge does - I vowed I wouldn't order any additional miniatures, but failed!
