What have I done? Analogue Painting Challenge

I seem to have lost my mind.  I've been known to do it from time to time but this seems a bit over the top.  I've thrown my hat in the ring on Curt's annual Analogue Painting Challenge.  I'm a slow painter who sometimes goes weeks without picking up a brush.  This should be amusing.

This year the rules are a bit different.  Last year the models had to be historical.  This year they can be Sci/Fi or Fantasy as well.  I've been prepping a ton of models for the winter, lately.  I may have had this challenge partly in the back of my mind.  I also have a ton of primed fantasy models and some 15mm Sci/Fi ready to go.  I won't run out of things to paint, that's for sure.

I'll need to make a plan and figure out my color schemes before this thing kicks off.  I also need to clear off the painting table before December 15th.  That means I have some 28mm Romans to get out as well as the eight rangers for the Bloggers for Charity event.  I guess I'd best get cracking.

I'm also going to set my goal for this challenge.  This is a stretch goal, especially considering what I've managed to get done this year.  I'm going for 120 28mm models; that's 600 points.  I've only gotten 88 models painted so far this entire year, so this is really a stretch.

I work best under a deadline, I'm hoping the pressure will keep me going and put a dent in my lead pile.  Here's to Curt!

  1. Good to have you on board with the rest of us fools, errmmm, I mean Challengers. Don't worry about painting speed - it's about personal challenge as much as anything, even though some folks do paint prodigious amounts and get competitive with each other.

    1. Thanks Tamsin. Yeah, I have no intention of trying to win this thing. I'm hoping it will spur me to actually get some painting done.

  2. Good luck in the challenge.

With 50 painters on board you will find you will fall in with a group that paint around your speed. I always try to get more points than the guy in front of me. Then the next etc. whilst trying to keep in front of the guy or girl behind me. That means I get a little push to keep going but it's all in fun.

    1. That's a good way to look at it Ian. I'm competitive but also realistic about how much time I actually have to spare. It's not uncommon for me to have an hour a day that isn't booked into something.

  3. I caved in yesterday as well… though I do now need to start prepping all my unmade models, otherwise I'm going to be losing time to everyone that knew about this earlier

    1. Welcome aboard! I've been assembling and priming models for a couple of months, mainly because it will be too cold to prime until spring. It's probably more than I'll get painted, but I sure hope to get it all done.

  6. Welcome aboard, I really enjoyed last year's event and while I too have a modest total in mind it was great fun watching the big boys slogging it out for bragging rights!

    1. The excitement the last two years has been part of why I wanted in on this years. I kept coming up with logical reasons not to participate. In the end I threw them all over board and decided to see what I can do.

  9. It's great to have you with us for this run of the Challenge, Aaron. Ian gave great advice in that its a lot of fun to compete with your cohort in the points standing. Stay ahead of ole X while keeping Y in sight. It'll help keep you focused while also being realistic. It's going to be great fun!

    1. Thanks Curt. And thank you so much for running this event. It really is one of the highlights of the year. I'm looking forward to seeing where I stand and pushing to stay just ahead of the nearest competitors.
