I finally took the plunge, sort of, in a "one toe in the water" sort of way. I placed an order with
Critical Mass Games for some of their ARC Fleet models. This is strictly a trial balloon, so it's a small order. I am awaiting receipt of one pack of eight ARC
Fleet Recon Troopers, one
Recon Grav Bike and one
Grav Scout. The total, with shipping to the US, was about $23 dollars. I've spent more on a few beers at the local pub, so if I hate them then I'm not out too much.

I like the look of these models, so this is probably my best chance of making the jump to 15mm. I've been doing a lot of research lately and there is just so much variety available in this scale, for such low prices. If I can wrap my brain around the scale difference then this will be a fun and interesting voyage of discovery. If not, I'm only out beer money.
In any case, I'm still going to be collecting 28mm stuff.
Defiance Games is, finally, almost ready to start shipping out their first minis. I've pre-ordered a set of these. We'll see how they look. I have high hopes for a force to fight my GW IG army.

My plan, hazy and vague as it is, is to game squad/platoon level at 28mm and platoon/company level at 15mm. I'll single base all of the 15mm minis, because that's how I roll. The kind of close proximity that infantry maintain in FoW will just get you killed on the modern battlefield, let alone any plausible future battlefield. I'm hoping that I will like Force on Force, and therefore Tomorrow's War, its Sci/Fi analog. If not, there are a ton of rule sets out there for me to try.
We are lucky gamers, to live in these days. There are a lot of choices out there and the quality of the sculpts has improved dramatically in the last couple of years. I'm loving the freedom to buy whatever I want from where ever I want and mix and match to build the army I want. I'm very excited. Now I just have to get over my hangup with 15mm.
Critical Mass Games is one of my favorite 15mm companies and I have nearly hit the "Checkout" button numerous times on their site, but I keep reminding myself that I haven't got the time for another project right now. You will definitely have to let me take a look at those models when they come in.
ReplyDeleteNick, Yeah, I made a list of all of the stuff I want from different manufacturers and there was a whole lot of CMG on there. I'm looking forward to seeing these. I'll bring them in to the shop after they arrive. Let me know when you'll be there.
