Treasures from the Past I - 6mm?

Yesterday I set the scene for today's post.  One of the treasures I found was a bunch of 6mm armor.  Back in the day, twenty five years ago now, my father and I played Twilight 2000.  This was the only game we played together, and it was very special to me because of that.

USMC LAV-25 with 6mm flame job.

We played the game with pencil and paper, but I also bought, and painted a bunch of armor.  This was in the days before the internet, as in, it didn't exist.  I didn't have anyone to teach me so I didn't know about priming, shading or any other techniques.  My fourteen year old self thought these were pretty awesome though.  These models are from CinC, who are still in business.  I paid $3.50 for a box of four.  They now go for $6.00 for the same.  Not bad at all, especially compared to some of the larger scale manufacturers out there.

I went with a simple scheme, green with brown for NATO and brown with green for Warsaw Pact.

All four LAV-25's.  I had not considered joining the Marine Corps at this point, but these were still my favorites.
The rest of the US vics.  M1-A1, M2, M728 with snarling mouth, M106 Mortar carrier and M113 APC.
For some reason I bought eight mortar carriers.  The winch on the M728 is missing.

The NATO allies.  Chieftain, Centurion, Leopard 2 and AMX-10
My NATO allies were a little less extensive, two sets of Brit tanks, one very old, a German platoon and a French infantry platoon.

2S1, BRDM-2, OT-64, BTR-60, T-72 and T80
The Warsaw Pact had even less variety.  The OT-64 is because the game took place in Poland.  I'm not sure why I painted the 2S1 as a NATO vehicle.  I probably thought it was an M109.

PBR.  I don't know why.  Why not?
There was also an Apache, a Black Hawk and an MI-17 Hip.  I'll keep digging through the boxes for those.

And the whole lot.
Now I just have to decide what to do with them all.  I feel, faint, stirrings for large scale 6mm armies.  This will not happen for the next couple of years, but I feel the need to do something with these.

  1. I sold off all my modern micro army many years ago. I had many of these same models.

Twilight 2000 was one of my favorite games and my friends and I played for many years. I really thought the 2nd edition tightened the rules up. I sold all of that stuff off a few years ago as well. I really should not dwell too much on the stuff I have sold.

    1. I haven't sold anything, happily. It's been a lot of fun finding the old stuff now. It's amazing how many happy memories it's bringing back.
