Arbach was called to the Captain's tent in the middle of the night. The Border Legion had been re-positioned to the Laurentian frontier after the fall of that kingdom to the Shadow Deep. The march had taken three weeks, followed by two more spent absorbing new recruits and learning the new area of operations.

There were reports that a village near the border, Vikra, had been attacked. Arbach was to take a lance of troops and investigate, protect the village and report back. The Captain had sent the company scout, Aventine, to the village the day before and Aventine was overdue. Arbach should expect trouble.
The members of the The Border Legion of the Alledore army were, by and large, experienced soldiers, hardened by years of combat on the Trasimene border. Their ranks had been made up in the last few weeks with new recruits, following the disaster in Laurentia. No one was sure what the Shadow Deep was, but it had destroyed the kingdom of Laurentia, Alledore's old enemy, in a matter of weeks. This would, potentially, be The Legion's first encounter with whatever lurked in the shadows.
Arbach was the Captain's most experienced Lieutenant and had a very capable band. He gathered his first lance and briefed them on the mission. The older members of the band had worked with Aventine, on the Trasimene border, in the past and had a lot of respect for his skills. If he had run into trouble they would be facing a fell foe, indeed.
The boys and I will be playing out the missions from the rule book and the Burning Light campaign. Depending on how that goes we may pick up some of the other books that have already been released.
