Roman army - Group shot

Jonathan and I played another game of Hail Caesar yesterday, though that's a story for another day.  Knowing that the game was coming up, I've been trying, frantically, to get everything painted.  Jonathan has done a much better job than me of only bringing painted units to the table.  March's cock up put me behind but I came very close.  Both of our armies are coming along nicely, though HC will play better with a lot more models than we have.  Still, here's an army shot, showing everything that is done so far.

All that are painted.

The picture above is the whole lot, minus another scorpion which I wasn't using in the game.  Unpainted are my two command stands, another unit of auxiliary archers, a unit of auxiliary cavalry and one and a half units of Auxiliary infantry.

The left side.
The Numidians are just about done.  Just the basing and a highlight on the skin left to do.  Next to them are the Praetorians followed by two line cohorts.

The other half of the army.
In this shot you get the auxiliary medium infantry, the veterans, another line cohort, a scorpion and the eastern auxiliary archers.

Ten units painted, four more primed, and still a small army for the game.  I'm looking forward to some side projects to break up the monotony.  I'm still excited by this army though and have plans for more units, just at a slower pace.

    1. Thanks Fran. I'm happy very happy with these. I do need to get the movement trays textured though.

  2. Thanks Nathan. Some folks can just churn these things out but I agree with you, it's a slow process.

  3. These are very well done and I spied a nellie in the background that I like. I don't know if anyone is slower than me. I've just now upped my average of two figures painted in a week.

    1. Thanks Anne, I appreciate it. The nellie's look good, but I hates them so much. I've found that speed comes with practice. I also paint to get my models on the table top. They are no where near the standard that you paint to. It's a trade off, and I like the choice you've made, slower painting but much higher quality.

  4. Great looking army Aaron - and I admit to fearing it as well. ;)

    1. Thanks Jonathan. That means a lot considering the quality of your painting.
